African Giants Advance to TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Group Stage

The Group Stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League will feature top clubs from across the continent, following the conclusion of the Preliminary Stages this weekend.

After two highly competitive Preliminary rounds involving 58 CAF-licensed clubs, the final 16 teams set to compete in the Group Stages have been confirmed. Africa’s premier club football competition now enters its thrilling Group Stage phase.

All 16 teams will be drawn into four groups of four, with the official draw taking place at CAF Headquarters in Cairo on Monday, 07 October 2024.

Among the qualified teams are reigning champions Al Ahly SC and last season’s runners-up Espérance Sportive de Tunis. DR Congo’s AS Maniema Union made history by securing their spot in the Group Stage for the first time, after eliminating Angola’s Petro de Luanda.

Other notable teams include five-time champions TP Mazembe, Raja Casablanca, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates, who return to the group stages after a five-year absence. Newcomers such as GD Sagrada Esperanca will also look to make their mark on the continental stage.
