Al Ahly, ES Tunis, and Sundowns Aim to Secure CAF Champions League Group Stage Spots

As the second leg of the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League approaches, some of Africa’s top clubs are poised to secure their places in the group stage. With commanding first-leg leads, teams like Al Ahly, ES Tunis, and Mamelodi Sundowns aim to complete the job and advance this weekend.

 

 

Al Ahly vs. Gor Mahi

Defending champions Al Ahly head into their home tie against Gor Mahia with a comfortable 3-0 aggregate lead. The clash will take place at the Cairo International Stadium, where Al Ahly are expected to seal their passage to the group stage.

Despite the challenge, Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Neiva remains hopeful, saying, “We must try to win the game and adapt to this level.” Al Ahly, led by Marcel Koller, will look to dominate and move closer to their 13th CAF Champions League title.

 

ES Tunis vs. Dekedah

ES Tunis will host Dekedaha at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi, entering with a 4-1 advantage. Goals from Youcef Belaili, Yan Sasse, and Yassine Meriah gave the Tunisian side control of the first leg. Tunis will aim to avoid complacency and secure a smooth path to the group stages.

 

Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Mbabane Swallow

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, under coach Manqoba Mngqithi, face Mbabane Swallows with a commanding 4-0 aggregate lead. The match, set for Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, sees Sundowns as heavy favorites to advance. Mngqithi stressed the importance of staying focused and building momentum for the next stage.

AS FAR vs. Al Merrik
