Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Liverpool’s Luis Diaz headline the Premier League’s shortlist for the Player of the Month award for September. Both players have been nominated for their standout performances throughout the month.
In contrast, August’s Player of the Month winner, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who netted seven goals in the first three games, did not make the shortlist for September. This guarantees a new winner for the month.
Interestingly, Manchester City, despite being the reigning champions, are not represented by any of the eight nominees. However, one of City’s former players is considered a strong contender to claim the award.
Palmer and Diaz Lead Player of the Month Nominees
Cole Palmer, a Manchester City academy graduate, has earned a nomination after netting five goals in just three Premier League appearances last month. Notably, four of those goals came in an explosive 20-minute spell during Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool’s Luis Diaz is also in contention after scoring four goals across four appearances in September. The Colombian winger scored twice in a 3-0 victory against Manchester United and added another brace in a 3-0 triumph over Bournemouth.
Who else has been nominated?
- Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool): Diaz’s teammate made the shortlist after excelling in the number six role. The Dutchman played every minute of Liverpool’s four September matches, completing the most passes in the Premier League (231) and winning possession more than any other player (29).
- Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal): The only defender on the list, Gabriel contributed on both ends for Arsenal. He made five blocks, won 12 duels, and scored two crucial goals, including a winner in the North London derby against Tottenham and Arsenal’s second in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
- Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa): Watkins scored four goals and provided one assist, securing his place among the nominees.
- Dwight McNeil (Everton): McNeil registered four goal contributions in September, earning his spot on the list.
- Raul Jimenez (Fulham): The Fulham striker made the shortlist for his performances last month.
- Harvey Barnes (Newcastle United): Barnes rounds out the nominees hoping to claim September’s top prize.
