WHAT WENT DOWN?
Orlando Pirates secured a solid 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday, marking their sixth consecutive win in the Premier Soccer League.
They now hold a six-point lead at the top of the table, although that margin could shrink if Mamelodi Sundowns triumph over Cape Town City on Wednesday.
Despite this impressive streak, Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro remains cautious and isn’t entirely satisfied with the team’s performance.
WHAT RIVEIRO HAD TO SAY
“There are many areas we need to refine. As you saw today, there were moments when we weren’t better than Galaxy and were even dominated at times, but we managed to pull through,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV.
“Once again, the fans were incredible, supporting us during our tougher moments. Together, we’ve had a fantastic start to the season—something we’ve been longing for over the past two seasons.
“Now it’s crucial to identify the areas where we can improve, even though that’s not always easy in football, and to build on the solid foundation we’ve established this season.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Buccaneers’ strong start to the PSL season has positioned them as genuine title contenders.
They are on a quest to reclaim the crown they last lifted at the end of the 2011/12 season, a trophy that has eluded them for far too long.
Beyond their impressive opening to the campaign, the Pirates have shown that they have what it takes to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the PSL, especially after clinching five cup finals in just two years.
